Abstract

An original methodology is presented for an optimal contract design of Product-Service System (PSS) based on the use of the product. The methodology is centered in the coordination of the business chain and the reliability of the product. In a PSS contract, instead of paying for the product, the client pays a rate to the supplier for a use service. For this reason, a PSS contract requires the client’s and the supplier’s interests are aligned to guarantee an improvement for both. For this to be accomplished, mutual cooperation through an effective coordination in the chain is due to assure. This work presents a contribution to existing literature when giving a quantitative tool for the PSS contract development that can be extended to other performance indicators like availability and reliability. The coordination of the chain is obtained when equaling the standard cost of the client with the standard margin of the supplier. The methodology for the case study about the tires used by mining trucks is illustrated. The results show a significant improvement in the margin of the chain and a reduction of the business environmental impact.
